Valmet has announced plans to restructure parts of its manufacturing operations in Sweden and Poland, including the closure of two facilities and proposed changes at a third site.<\/p>\n
The Finnish engineering group said it will begin union negotiations within its Global Supply unit regarding the planned changes. The measures concern manufacturing operations in Sundsvall and Gothenburg in Sweden, both of which the company intends to close. In addition, discussions will be held over proposed operational changes at its site in Jelenia G\u00f3ra, Poland.<\/p>\n
The planned measures could affect up to around 170 roles in Sundsvall, up to 55 roles in Gothenburg, and up to 130 roles in Jelenia G\u00f3ra.<\/p>\n
Valmet said the restructuring is aimed at strengthening the long-term competitiveness of its Biomaterial Solutions and Services segment, as well as improving efficiency across its global manufacturing footprint. The company cited continued uncertainty in the global economy, which is affecting customer decision-making, as a key factor behind the review.<\/p>\n
The changes form part of Valmet\u2019s broader Global Supply strategy, which targets cost savings of \u20ac100 million in procurement, logistics and production optimisation by 2030.<\/p>\n
As a result of the planned adjustments in Sweden and Poland, Valmet estimates potential annual net cost savings of around \u20ac20 million, with full impact expected from early 2027.<\/p>\n
The company said negotiations with employee representatives will be conducted in accordance with local legislation and practices in each country. It added that support measures will be offered to affected employees throughout the process.<\/p>\n
Valmet also stated that it will focus on maintaining uninterrupted deliveries and project execution for its customers during the transition.<\/p>\n
Valmet employs approximately 1,700 people in Sweden and around 18,500 globally.
