Swiss companies Kuratle Group and Raurica Wald AG have abandoned plans to develop the Swiss Timber Production (STP) project, halting a proposed softwood sawmill and processing complex in Perlen near Lucerne.<\/p>\n
The STP project had been conceived as a large-scale industrial investment aimed at expanding domestic wood processing capacity and strengthening value creation along Switzerland\u2019s timber construction chain. The plans included not only a sawmill, but also downstream processing and wood-based panel production.<\/p>\n
The decision follows a detailed review of economic and regulatory conditions, as well as different implementation and investment structures. Under current conditions, the companies said they were unable to establish a sufficiently robust long-term basis for a capital-intensive industrial project in Switzerland.<\/p>\n
Despite shelving the project in its original form, both companies indicated that the technical and strategic groundwork has been completed.
