Komatsu Forest has agreed to acquire Swedish manufacturer Malwa Forest, a producer of small-scale forestry machines, as demand shifts towards lighter equipment suited to more sustainable forest management.<\/p>\n
The transaction, announced this week, is expected to be completed by April 1, subject to customary conditions. Financial details were not disclosed.<\/p>\n
Komatsu Forest, part of Japan\u2019s Komatsu group, said the acquisition reflects structural changes in forestry, including stricter environmental requirements, climate considerations and rising demand for sustainably sourced materials.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis agreement is a natural extension of our ambition to find the best solutions to today\u2019s challenges in forestry,\u201d said Peter Hasselryd, vice-president for marketing and sales at Komatsu Forest.<\/p>\n
Founded in 2009, Malwa develops and manufactures lightweight harvesters and forwarders designed for selective thinning and operations in sensitive terrain. The machines are narrower and lighter than conventional equipment, allowing work on tighter extraction tracks and reducing ground impact.<\/p>\n
Demand for such equipment has been increasing as forest owners and contractors adapt to environmental constraints and seek to minimise soil disturbance.<\/p>\n
\u201cMalwa has developed strongly in recent years, and we see clearly growing demand for lightweight forestry machines,\u201d said Magnus Wallin, the company\u2019s founder and head of business development.<\/p>\n
Under the agreement, Malwa will continue to operate under its existing brand, and its machines will retain their current design and colour scheme. The company is expected to benefit from Komatsu\u2019s industrial backing, including access to wider distribution channels and resources for further development.<\/p>\n
Wallin said the partnership would allow Malwa to expand into new markets while maintaining its product concept.<\/p>\n
