Roseburg Forest Products has restarted construction of its Dillard MDF project in southern Oregon, reviving a major investment aimed at expanding its medium density fiberboard production and strengthening its position in the western North American panels market.<\/p>\n
The project had been placed on hold in early 2025 as the company reassessed its investment plans due to uncertain economic conditions and concerns about possible policy changes in Oregon that could have affected the project\u2019s viability. Roseburg now says the outlook has improved enough for work to resume.<\/p>\n
The new plant will be built within Roseburg\u2019s existing Dillard manufacturing complex and will be equipped with a continuous press supplied by Siempelkamp. The line will produce both medium density fiberboard and high-density fiberboard used in construction, cabinetry and flooring applications.<\/p>\n
The facility will be integrated with the existing Dillard site, allowing the operation to make use of locally sourced wood residuals as well as the complex\u2019s biomass energy system. The integration is intended to support efficient fibre use and competitive production costs.<\/p>\n
Roseburg president and chief executive Stuart Gray said the investment forms a central part of the company\u2019s long-term plans in composite panels.<\/p>\n
\u201cDillard MDF plays a key role in our future,\u201d he said. \u201cThe plant will be one of the lowest cost producers in the world, which significantly enhances Roseburg\u2019s long-term competitive position in composite panels in the West and North America.\u201d<\/p>\n
Construction had been paused while the company evaluated market conditions and the potential impact of regulatory changes at the state level. During that period Roseburg implemented several measures aimed at strengthening its overall business performance while preparing for the next phase of investment.<\/p>\n
The company said the new plant will employ more than 140 people when operations begin, with start-up currently expected in late 2028.<\/p>\n
The fiberboard press at the new facility will be installed on the same footprint as the first press supplied by Siempelkamp to Roseburg more than fifty years ago.
