German wood-processing company Mocopinus will close all its production sites after efforts to secure an investor during insolvency proceedings failed, bringing an end to a business that traces its origins back to 1865.<\/p>\n
The company, headquartered in Ulm in the state of Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, announced on March 5 that the restructuring process conducted under self-administration had not produced a solution for continuing operations. As a result, all sites will be gradually shut down and approximately 270 employees will lose their jobs.<\/p>\n
Mocopinus is one of Europe\u2019s best-known industrial planing mills and operates production facilities in Karlsruhe and Ammelshain near Leipzig, as well as its administrative headquarters in Ulm.<\/p>\n
The company filed for insolvency in December 2025 and since then management, together with court-appointed advisers, had been seeking investors for the business or parts of its operations.<\/p>\n
According to the company, negotiations with numerous potential buyers ultimately resulted only in offers for the company\u2019s real estate assets rather than for the operating business and workforce.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an extremely bitter day for Mocopinus and our employees,\u201d chief executive Ulrich Braig said in a statement. \u201cWe fought until the very last moment to save the company. The fact that we were unable to achieve this despite operational stabilisation in recent weeks is very painful.\u201d<\/p>\n
The insolvency process will therefore move into an orderly wind-down phase. Production at the Karlsruhe and Ammelshain plants will continue for several months in order to complete existing customer orders before the facilities are permanently closed.<\/p>\n
Once these orders have been fulfilled, operations at the sites will cease.<\/p>\n
Mocopinus currently employs around 270 people, including about 180 at the Karlsruhe plant, 60 in Ammelshain and roughly 30 at the Ulm headquarters.<\/p>\n
Employee representatives have been informed about the situation and negotiations will begin on a social plan for the affected workforce.<\/p>\n
The closure will affect the three main Mocopinus sites. However, the subsidiary Lignum-Finish, based in Aitrach in southern Germany, is not included in the shutdown process for the time being, with negotiations over its future still continuing.<\/p>\n
Mocopinus developed from a sawmill founded in 1865 and over the decades grew into a specialist manufacturer of planed timber and thermally modified wood products used in fa\u00e7ades, decking and other architectural applications.<\/p>\n
