The first edition of the restructured imm Cologne<\/span><\/span><\/strong> exceeded the most cautious expectations, delivering stable participation figures despite a challenging market environment and the absence of several major European suppliers. Held in Cologne from 20 to 23 January 2026 under the banner World of Interiors<\/em>, the event was staged exclusively as a B2B sourcing platform.<\/p>\n

In total, 339 exhibitors from 28 countries took part, occupying an exhibition area of around 53,000 square metres. International participation remained high, with 97% of exhibitors coming from outside Germany. Asian suppliers dominated the exhibitor mix, led by China with 252 exhibitors, alongside companies from Hong Kong and other Asian manufacturing hubs. European participation was more selective, reflecting ongoing restructuring and cautious capacity management across the furniture industry.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The event attracted around 10,000 trade visitors from 104 countries. International visitors accounted for roughly half of total attendance, with strong representation from Belgium, France, the UK and the Netherlands. The visitor profile was clearly decision-oriented, consisting mainly of purchasing managers from buying groups, retail chains, wholesale and specialist retailers, as well as e-commerce and mail-order companies.<\/p>\n

Collections on display focused on market-ready furniture in the entry-level and mid-range price segments, reflecting current sourcing priorities. Exhibitors reported that discussions were largely transaction-driven, with visitors using the event to compare collections, adjust ranges and initiate purchasing decisions for the year ahead.<\/p>\n

The strong presence of Asian suppliers mirrored broader market developments. According to official German trade data, imports now account for around 60% of the German furniture market, with China alone representing approximately 30%. Furniture imports from China reached \u20ac2.4 billion between January and September 2025, underlining the growing importance of international sourcing platforms at the start of the business year.<\/p>\n

National pavilions provided additional breadth, with joint presentations from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Japan, Romania, Taiwan and Turkey. These collective stands were used primarily to position national manufacturing bases within international sourcing strategies rather than to showcase design-led concepts.<\/p>\n

Feedback from exhibitors and buyers pointed to efficient use of time and a high share of concrete business talks. Several participants<\/a> reported concluded deals or advanced negotiations during the four-day event, particularly in private-label, OEM and volume-driven segments.<\/p>\n

The new format was designed to respond to current supply chain realities, including more volatile supplier relationships, revised sourcing strategies and the growing role of international procurement markets. Organisers indicated that the results confirmed the viability of a leaner, sourcing-focused concept at a time when efficiency and predictability are key priorities for the industry.<\/p>\n

Preparations are already under way for the next edition, scheduled to take place in Cologne from 19 to 22 January 2027.
