Export value rose even faster—34% to €1.92 billion—as prices strengthened in several destinations and volumes expanded across key regions.

Egypt remained Finland’s largest overseas market, taking 1.34 million m³ (+50%). Japan grew to 750,823 m³ (+32%), reinforcing its position as the leading Asian destination. The United Kingdom absorbed 855,385 m³ (+51%), consolidating its role as the biggest European growth market outside the EU.

China continued to show steady recovery at 423,068 m³ (+8%), while Israel and Saudi Arabia recorded some of the strongest percentage increases among major buyers. The Philippines more than doubled its intake of Finnish lumber, and markets such as Algeria, Morocco, Denmark and Lithuania contributed additional gains.

Some European destinations experienced slower growth or mild declines, including France and Spain, while Sweden and Portugal recorded sharper reductions. Even so, Europe as a whole remained Finland’s largest regional market, accounting for nearly half of export volumes.

Exports to North Africa rose significantly, driven by Egypt but supported by solid increases in Algeria and Morocco. Shipments to the Near and Middle East also expanded rapidly, with Israel and Saudi Arabia both importing more than 375,000 m³ combined.

The first ten months of 2025 therefore reflect both the strength of Finland’s traditional markets and a notable deepening of demand in North Africa, the Middle East and selected Asian countries.

Top 20 Finnish softwood lumber export destinations (Jan–Oct 2025, countries only — by volume)

Destination

Volume 2024 (m³)

Volume 2025 (m³)

Change %

Value 2024 (€)

Value 2025 (€)

Change %

Avg Price 2025 (€/m³)

Market Share 2025 (%)

Egipt

896,911

1,342,469

+50%

159,132,759

245,838,691

+54%

183

17.5

Japan

570,822

750,823

+32%

150,859,811

204,356,999

+35%

272

9.8

United Kingdom

567,554

855,385

+51%

148,313,761

240,649,499

+62%

281

11.2

China

393,189

423,068

+8%

73,215,365

79,515,604

+9%

188

5.5

Israel

233,232

375,732

+61%

49,517,041

86,763,152

+75%

231

4.9

Saudi Arabia

285,183

427,131

+50%

58,714,262

99,504,443

+69%

233

5.6

Estonia

473,396

525,299

+11%

113,342,998

128,910,986

+14%

245

6.9

Algeria

173,781

216,591

+25%

40,187,194

54,015,904

+34%

249

2.8

Morocco

148,374

200,487

+35%

29,445,782

42,835,993

+45%

214

2.6

Netherlands

197,045

209,699

+6%

50,718,868

59,526,854

+17%

284

2.7

Germania

339,967

340,828

0%

88,062,535

96,579,608

+10%

283

4.4

Franța

324,608

303,308

-7%

81,050,557

83,790,261

+3%

276

4.0

Philippines

51,592

107,595

+109%

16,746,293

39,981,466

+139%

372

1.4

Turkey

33,721

66,560

+97%

8,269,159

16,453,332

+99%

247

0.9

Italy

131,563

128,158

-3%

37,924,300

39,084,476

+3%

305

1.7

Belgia

87,211

101,687

+17%

22,970,050

29,090,766

+27%

286

1.3

Danemarca

77,441

92,627

+20%

25,816,770

32,415,409

+26%

350

1.2

Lithuania

70,758

77,456

+9%

19,194,044

22,334,133

+16%

289

1.0

Spain

62,145

60,975

-2%

15,651,494

16,042,077

+2%

263

0.8

Poland

91,932

95,453

+4%

26,597,941

28,466,816

+7%

298

1.2

GLOBAL TOTAL

6,025,649

7,670,034

+27%

1,432,668,107

1,920,027,344

+34%

250

100%

Finland’s softwood lumber exports reached 7.67 million m³ in the first ten months of 2025, up 27% from a year earlier, supported by strong demand in Egypt, Japan, the United Kingdom, China, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.
