The European Union increased its purchases of Norwegian softwood logs and lumber sharply in the first nine months of 2025, according to Eurostat data. Strong demand in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands, combined with tighter Norwegian supply, pushed both volumes and values significantly higher.<\/p>\n

EU imports of Norwegian softwood logs reached 4.40 million m\u00b3 in Jan\u2013Sep 2025, up 54% from 2.85 million m\u00b3 in the same period of 2024. Import value almost doubled to \u20ac449.6 million, reflecting firm purchase prices across all major destinations.<\/p>\n

Sweden remained the largest importer, taking 3.58 million m\u00b3, a 58% increase year-on-year. Germany imported 508,403 m\u00b3 (+30%), while Latvia and Denmark both recorded growth of about one-third. Finland posted the strongest relative increase, with log imports rising more than two-and-a-half times to 110,446 m\u00b3.<\/p>\n

Softwood lumber imports from Norway also rose strongly. Total EU imports reached 893,219 m\u00b3 in Jan\u2013Sep 2025, up 73% from 516,086 m\u00b3 last year. Import value increased 63% to \u20ac195.1 million. Sweden led with 529,516 m\u00b3, followed by the Netherlands with 162,002 m\u00b3, Denmark with 119,754 m\u00b3, and Germany with 61,172 m\u00b3. France recorded a sharp increase to 9,927 m\u00b3.<\/p>\n

Higher values across nearly all destinations confirm that prices continued rising in 2025, supported by strong Nordic demand and competition for limited Norwegian supply.<\/p>\n
