Demand is weakening at two out of three logging companies, according to a recent survey by the Finnish Forest Contractors\u2019 Association (Koneyritt\u00e4j\u00e4t).<\/p>\n
The business climate in the forest sector has turned rapidly for the worse, Koneyritt\u00e4j\u00e4t says. According to the association\u2019s survey, demand for logging services dropped sharply already in the summer. For two-thirds of logging companies, summer employment was below normal, and for 40 percent it was even far below normal.<\/p>\n
The autumn has begun under production restrictions. In the survey, one in four logging companies anticipated a significant deterioration in harvesting for the rest of the year, while nearly 40 percent expected a slight decline. Only one in ten reported an increase in demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cDemand is weakening somewhat or significantly at two out of three logging companies. Heading into winter, this is quite an exceptional situation. Time will tell what the decline in demand will be in cubic metres,\u201d said Koneyritt\u00e4j\u00e4t\u2019s deputy managing director Simo Jaakkola in a statement.<\/p>\n
According to Jaakkola, entrepreneurs expect the utilisation rate of machinery and personnel to remain under capacity throughout the autumn, from September to December.<\/p>\n
