A major Swedish forestry organization has announced a broad reduction in timber prices, citing weak demand in the construction sector, rising inventories of fiber and energy products, and a stronger Swedish krona putting pressure on margins in the export-oriented timber industry. The adjustments affect several product categories and take effect from September 25, 2025.<\/p>\n

Mellanskog, one of Sweden\u2019s leading forestry companies, is implementing the price cuts. Standard pine timber will see a reduction of 50 SEK per cubic meter (\u2248\u20ac4.40\/m\u00b3), while pine and spruce logs are being lowered by 40 SEK per cubic meter (\u2248\u20ac3.50\/m\u00b3). Similarly, softwood and spruce pulpwood prices are reduced by 40 SEK\/m\u00b3 (\u2248\u20ac3.50\/m\u00b3). Firewood will also fall by 40 SEK\/m\u00b3 (\u2248\u20ac3.50\/m\u00b3), and grot, the residual branches and tops used for energy, is reduced by 20 SEK per cubic meter (\u2248\u20ac1.75\/m\u00b3).<\/p>\n

The company cites the combination of subdued construction activity, rising stock levels of fiber and energy wood, and currency fluctuations as the main reasons for the adjustments. These measures are aimed at managing growing inventories while maintaining stability in export and domestic markets.<\/p>\n

The price reductions are expected to impact sawmills, pulp producers, and energy wood buyers.
