Latvia\u2019s softwood lumber exports continued to expand in the first eight months of 2025, showing a healthy increase in both volume and value compared with the same period in 2024. Total exports reached 2.22 million cubic meters, up 28% from 1.73 million cubic meters a year earlier, while the corresponding export value surged by 55% to \u20ac641.5 million, reflecting higher average prices across most markets.<\/p>\n

The United Kingdom remained Latvia\u2019s largest single market, absorbing 846,000 cubic meters, a 55% rise from last year, and accounting for 38% of total export volume. The value of exports to the UK climbed even more sharply, increasing by 72% to \u20ac271 million, underlining robust demand and rising prices.<\/p>\n

The North American market also showed strong growth, with exports to the USA doubling to 173,000 cubic meters, representing a 7.8% share of total Latvian softwood exports. The corresponding value increased by 81% to nearly \u20ac50 million, indicating Latvia\u2019s growing presence in this region.<\/p>\n

European neighbors Estonia and Lithuania maintained their significance, with volumes up 35% and 41%, respectively. France and the Netherlands also saw substantial gains, with French exports jumping 68% to 87,400 cubic meters and reaching an 85% increase in value, highlighting its expanding share in Latvia\u2019s export portfolio.<\/p>\n

Several smaller markets experienced remarkable growth in both volume and value. Algeria and Morocco stood out, with shipments to Algeria almost doubling in volume and more than doubling in value. Similarly, Norway and the Faroe Islands posted triple-digit growth rates, albeit from smaller base volumes, contributing to a more diversified market distribution.<\/p>\n

Notably, China recorded a steep decline in exports, with volumes falling 67% to just 6,800 cubic meters and value dropping 74% to \u20ac1.34 million, reflecting a sharp contraction in demand.<\/p>\n
