Mets\u00e4 Wood will start test runs in October at its new laminated veneer lumber (LVL) mill in \u00c4\u00e4nekoski, Finland, with full production scheduled for the end of 2026. The site will include two production lines and a research and development laboratory for veneer-based wood products.<\/p>\n

The mill covers a total area of 50,000 m\u00b2, including a 45,000 m\u00b2 production space. Annual output is expected to reach 160,000 m\u00b3, and around 150 jobs will be created once the facility is fully operational.<\/p>\n

According to Mets\u00e4 Wood, demand for engineered wood products in Europe is influenced by regulatory frameworks that favor timber in construction and by long-term sustainability trends in building. The company notes that European construction, particularly in the residential sector, has been subdued in recent years, affecting timber construction. Early signs of recovery have appeared in 2025, but investment remains cautious.<\/p>\n

The mill is intended to supply European markets, with exports also planned for North America and Australia. The on-site research laboratory is expected to support the development of veneer-based wood products.<\/p>\n

Construction and assembly work are being carried out in parallel, with occupational safety measures reportedly keeping incidents low. Extensive trial operations are planned for winter 2025\u20132026 to ensure the mill is ready for full production by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n
