German timber producer Rettenmeier has inaugurated a large sawmill in In\u010dukalns, Latvia, boosting its presence in the Baltic region and strengthening access to local spruce and pine resources.<\/p>\n

The facility, one of the largest in the Baltics, has a planned annual cutting capacity of more than 1 million cubic metres of logs. It includes a planing mill, high-performance sorting system, and a pellet plant designed to recycle residual materials. A biomass cogeneration unit will use waste heat from the drying process to supply heating for buildings on site.<\/p>\n

Latvia, where around 40% of the territory is forested, provides a steady supply of spruce and pine, raw materials valued for their density, fine growth rings and suitability for structural applications.<\/p>\n

Rolands Rimic\u0101ns, Managing Director of Rettenmeier Baltic Timber, said the investment underlines the company\u2019s commitment to the region, combining \u201cstate-of-the-art technology with regional strength.\u201d<\/p>\n

The opening comes as Rettenmeier accelerates its European expansion. Earlier this year, the company acquired key assets of Germany\u2019s insolvent Ziegler Group, a move that lifted its total softwood lumber production capacity to 6.2 million cubic metres annually and positioned it as Europe\u2019s third-largest sawmill group.<\/p>\n
