Riga Wood Finland is implementing an investment of approximately 15 million euros in the Sastamala veneer mill, which will build a new birch veneer turning line.<\/p>\n
The investment supports the growth strategy of parent company Latvijas Finieris in the birch plywood market, the company said in a press release.<\/p>\n
The investment will significantly increase the production of the Sastamala factory, improve efficiency and ensure the factory's competitiveness.<\/p>\n
The personnel impact is positive, but significantly more moderate compared to the increase in capacity.<\/p>\n
The new line will be built inside the existing factory building and the factory roof will be raised by approximately 480 m2. The new log heating pool will be located next to the existing pool.<\/p>\n
\"In addition to these, an extension to the peeling and cutting building will be built, the rest of the power supply will be renewed (transformers and main electrical switchboard), the beginning of the log sorting line will be modernized, conveyor foundations, machine foundations, by-product handling and a chip pocket will be built,\" the release says.<\/p>\n
The investment is already in the planning phase. Planico Oym has acted as the main construction designer, but several design firms have participated in the project, the most significant of which is Kari Rinne Engineering, which is responsible for the design of the log heating pool.<\/p>\n
\u201cPreparatory work for construction is already underway, and old structures and machine lines inside the factory have been dismantled.\u201d<\/p>\n
Construction will now begin in September and Nyab Finland Oy will act as the main contractor.<\/p>\n
The machine and equipment installations are scheduled for autumn 2026 and commercial negotiations are currently underway.<\/p>\n
