Fifty employees at Setra Group\u2019s sawmill in Hasselfors, in southwestern N\u00e4rke, are being given notice of termination. \u201cA necessary step,\u201d says CEO Marcus Westdahl.<\/p>\n
The workforce at Setra\u2019s Hasselfors sawmill will be reduced from 107 to 57 positions as the company is forced to cut production to just over half of its previous level.<\/p>\n
According to a company press release, the background to the decision is the continued weakness of the global construction market and economic uncertainty. Setra notes that this uncertainty is affecting the ability to maintain relevant pricing in relation to current cost levels.<\/p>\n

The so-called production adjustment in Hasselfors means that the unit\u2019s organization will shrink from 107 to 57 jobs. The notice of termination covers both blue-collar and white-collar employees.<\/p>\n
Production will be reduced to just over half capacity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are committed to carrying out the process with a focus on our employees, while at the same time ensuring that Hasselfors is well prepared for the future. The situation could change if the lumber market shifts quickly and drastically. Factors such as the economy, global conditions, supply, prices, currency fluctuations and the pace of global construction all interact and have an impact in different ways,\u201d says Marcus Westdahl.<\/p>\n
In its latest quarterly report, Setra Group AB posted an operating loss of SEK -60 million (\u20ac -5.45 million) for the second quarter of 2025, compared with a positive result of SEK 31 million (\u20ac 2.82 million) in the same period last year.<\/p>\n
Setra operates eight production units in Sweden, seven of which are sawmills. The company is 99.5% owned by Mellanskog, with the remaining 0.5% held by around 1,400 smaller shareholders. The Group employs around 865 people.<\/p>\n
Setra\u2019s Hasselfors sawmill, located in Lax\u00e5, \u00d6rebro County, produces sawn wood products and planed construction timber. Its main markets include Sweden, the UK, the USA, Germany, France, and Japan. The mill was first established in 1908 and is currently managed by Jonas Fintling.
