Segezha, one of Russia\u2019s largest timber industry groups, reported a revenue decline in the first half of 2025 as weaker export demand and currency shifts weighed on performance.<\/p>\n
The company said revenue fell 8% year-on-year to 44.8 billion rubles (\u20ac448 million)<\/strong>, citing lower export sales and prices alongside the strengthening ruble. Domestic sales were also affected, with Russian market revenue down 10%<\/strong> compared with the same period last year.<\/p>\n In the second quarter, sales of sawnwood held steady at 500 million rubles (\u20ac5 million)<\/strong>, unchanged from 2024. Plywood sales, however, dropped 18%<\/strong> to 40,000 cubic metres<\/strong>, pressured by sluggish global construction activity, oversupply in some regions, reduced Chinese imports of Russian plywood, anti-dumping duties in the European Union, and tariff barriers in the United States.<\/p>\n China has traditionally been Segezha\u2019s largest market for timber and plywood, accounting for more than 75%<\/strong> of certain product exports. But this year, the market has underperformed, reflecting lower demand and subdued price quotations.<\/p>\n Looking ahead, Segezha plans to consolidate its position in the domestic Russian market while seeking growth in higher-margin regions such as the Middle East and North Africa. The company has also announced structural changes to its wood-processing division, including the reorganisation of a Siberian facility.
