On 12 August 2025, the European Commission released its latest guidance<\/a> on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), offering clarifications on several key points for stakeholders.<\/p>\n

Yet, the regulation is under increasing pressure from multiple directions. The United States is lobbying for exemptions for its exporters, arguing that the production of relevant commodities in the US poses a negligible risk to global deforestation. This stance was reflected in a recent EU-US framework declaration, stating that the EU \u201ccommits to work to address the concerns of US producers and exporters regarding the EU Deforestation Regulation, with a view to avoiding undue impact on US-EU trade.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, several EU member states and the European Parliament are pressing for either a delay in the regulation\u2019s implementation or a simplification of obligations for European producers.<\/p>\n

In this context, the European Commission is widely expected to present an environmental omnibus simplification package this fall, which could include the EUDR and temporarily suspend enforcement until further adjustments are agreed.
