Germany saw a significant recovery in building permits for residential construction in July 2025, marking positive news for the country\u2019s construction sector. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 22,100 new housing units were approved last month, an increase of 30.0% or 5,100 units compared with July 2024. Last year\u2019s July figure had fallen to its lowest level since 2009.<\/p>\n

From January to July 2025, a total of 131,800 housing units were approved, up 6.6% or 8,200 units from the same period in 2024. These figures include permits for new housing in both newly constructed residential and non-residential buildings, as well as for additional units in existing buildings.<\/p>\n

Focusing on newly constructed residential buildings, July 2025 saw approvals for 17,800 units, representing a 33.2% rise or 4,400 more units than in July 2024. Between January and July 2025, approvals for new residential units in newly built structures rose by 8.2% or 8,100 units year-on-year.<\/p>\n

Breaking down by building type, the number of single-family house permits increased by 15.0% (+3,300) to 25,400. Approvals for two-family houses declined slightly by 6.6% (-500) to 7,100 units. In multi-family buildings\u2014the largest category in terms of units\u2014a total of 69,300 new apartments were approved in the first seven months of 2025, reflecting a 5.6% increase (+3,700 units) compared with the same period in 2024.<\/p>\n

The data indicates that Germany\u2019s housing sector is experiencing a tangible rebound, with multi-family construction continuing to drive growth while single-family housing shows renewed strength.
