<\/span>Segezha Group is cutting 350 jobs at the Novoeniseysky Wood-Chemical Complex in Lesosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, reducing the plant\u2019s workforce by more than a third. The decision, linked to cost optimization measures, has drawn scrutiny from the Krasnoyarsk Krai Prosecutor\u2019s Office, which confirmed that Deputy Prosecutor Pavel Andreev met on-site with employees to discuss the situation.<\/p>\n

The plant is one of three city-forming enterprises in Lesosibirsk and the second-largest in the region\u2019s forest industry after Lesosibirsk LDK No. 1, also operated by Segezha. Both mills traditionally served export markets, but the loss of European buyers after 2022 sanctions forced a shift to Asia, where competition and transport constraints have weighed heavily on performance.<\/p>\n

The entire forest sector in Krasnoyarsk Krai has been in structural crisis since sanctions cut off access to high-margin European markets. Redirection of shipments to Asia has been undermined by falling prices offered by Chinese buyers and severe congestion on the Eastern branch of Russian Railways, which has delayed deliveries and pushed up logistics costs.<\/p>\n

Segezha\u2019s financials for the first half of 2025 illustrate the downturn: revenue fell 8% year-on-year to 44.8 billion rubles ($512 million), adjusted OIBDA plunged 54% to 2.6 billion rubles ($30 million), and net losses widened 68% to 15.9 billion rubles ($182 million). Lumber sales declined by 6% to 1.0 million m\u00b3, with China accounting for 78% of the total volume. Sales of birch plywood fell by 7% to 84,000 m\u00b3.
