Latvian veneer producer AmberBirch<\/strong> is making nearly \u20ac50 million in investments in Krustpils to double its production capacity and expand its product range, the company said on Monday.<\/p>\n

The company, which opened its plant five years ago on a former military airfield, plans to increase birch veneer output from around 45,000 cubic meters per year to 90,000 cubic meters. The expansion will allow the use of veneer logs up to 70 centimeters in diameter and the production of veneer sheets ranging from 1 to 2.6 meters in length, enabling the company to offer at least 50 different veneer types, up from 25 previously.<\/p>\n

The upgrade relies on new-generation technology supplied by Finland\u2019s Raute Corporation<\/strong>, including automated log feeding, peeling, drying, sorting, and defect and moisture analysis systems, along with MillSIGHTS MIS software<\/strong>. The investment is expected to enhance efficiency, product quality, and competitiveness in international markets, while supporting EU carbon reduction goals.<\/p>\n

The expansion will create 45 new jobs, bringing the workforce to 130, with further plans for a plywood production facility that could increase employment to 250.
