<\/span>Swedish wood industry company Setra Group AB reported an operating loss of SEK 60 million (\u20ac4.9 million) for the second quarter of 2025, compared with a positive operating profit of SEK 31 million (\u20ac2.5 million) in the same period last year.<\/p>\n

The company cited weak demand, continued high raw material prices, and customs uncertainty as the main factors behind the decline. A strong Swedish krona also added pressure on the sawmill and wood processing sector, according to Setra\u2019s financial statement commentary.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the second quarter, Setra has continued its work to strengthen internal efficiency and reduce fixed costs, and we now see a clear positive trend,\u201d said Marcus Westdahl, President and CEO of Setra Group.<\/p>\n

In March, the company announced layoffs of 60 employees at its CLT factory in L\u00e5ngshyttan, Dalarna, and switched from continuous to intermittent production of CLT and wood components until further notice. Westdahl said the production adaptation is entering its final phase, with noticeable effects expected in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

Setra is also working to reduce inventories of both raw materials and finished goods, while optimizing production processes. \u201cTo ensure long-term competitiveness for the Swedish woodworking industry, a balance needs to be reached between raw material and finished product prices. Especially for pine, where there is no shortage, the raw material price must be adjusted so sawmills can achieve a positive margin,\u201d Westdahl added.<\/p>\n

The company operates eight production units across Sweden, including seven sawmills. Setra is 99.5% owned by Mellanskog, with the remaining 0.5% held by roughly 1,400 smaller shareholders. The group employs approximately 865 people.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
