<\/span>Mellanskog, one of Sweden\u2019s leading wood suppliers, has reduced the base price of hardwood pulpwood by SEK 50 to SEK 580\/m\u00b3fub (\u20ac52) and firewood by SEK 50 to SEK 500\/m\u00b3fub (\u20ac45), effective August 20, 2025. This is the cooperative\u2019s first price cut since October 2019, when it lowered pulpwood and sawlog rates due to high supply and weak global demand.<\/p>\n

Swedish forestry companies had increased timber prices in recent years because of strong global demand, infrastructure investments, and efforts to improve forest accessibility. The latest reduction comes as weaker construction activity and declining sawmill profitability affect harvesting. Sweden\u2019s lumber exports fell 14% in the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n

Mellanskog said the price cut reflects a continued oversupply of wood on the market, driven by a mild winter and a stronger Swedish krona, which has contributed to lower prices for finished forest products.<\/p>\n
