{"id":89212,"date":"2025-08-26T06:53:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T06:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/u-s-eu-trade-deal-limits-lumber-tariffs-to-15-and-eases-eudr-compliance-for-american-exports\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T09:04:54","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T09:04:54","slug":"u-s-eu-trade-deal-limits-lumber-tariffs-to-15-and-eases-eudr-compliance-for-american-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/u-s-eu-trade-deal-limits-lumber-tariffs-to-15-and-eases-eudr-compliance-for-american-exports\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S.-EU trade deal limits lumber tariffs to 15% and eases EUDR compliance for American exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span id=\"more-39059\"><\/span>The White House and the EU commission announced further details of the framework agreement they signed which has significant consequences for lumber products.<\/p>\n<p>The important part of this new declaration for lumber is the following: \"The United States intends to promptly ensure that the tariff rate, comprised of the MFN tariff and the tariff imposed pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, applied to originating goods of the European Union subject to Section 232 actions on pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and lumber does not exceed 15%.\" So what does this mean? The US is planning to apply duties on imports of lumber under section 232 which will be probably higher then current reciprocal tariffs. The EU is ensuring that no tariffs will be higher then 15% on its products. Where does this leave lumber? Well in a still confusing space. There are as of now still no reciprocal duties on lumber and the section 232 investigation on lumber does not seem to be a high priority of the administration. But all the signs are pointing towards lumber paying 15% as other products imported in the US from Europe.<\/p>\n<p>As of Sept 1st 2025 unavailable natural resources in the US will benefit from MFN which means they will be exempted from reciprocal tariffs. Cork is identified in the agreement as benefiting from this exemption but Its not clear what additional unavailable natural resources in the US are concerned.<\/p>\n<p>Another noteworthy part of the agreement is that US exports of lumber to the EU will not be inhibited by EUDR regulations. The statement reads: \"Recognising that production of the relevant commodities within the territory of the United States poses negligible risk to global deforestation, the European Union commits to work to address the concerns of US producers and exporters regarding the EU Deforestation Regulation, with a view to avoiding undue impact on US-EU trade.\" In other words US exporters can stop worrying about compliance with EUDR regulation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The White House and the EU commission announced further details of the framework agreement they signed which has significant consequences for lumber products.
