<\/span>Swedish forest industry group S\u00f6dra will invest \u20ac130 million in its Kisa sawmill in \u00d6sterg\u00f6tland County, southern Sweden, boosting production capacity by 50% to 300,000 cubic metres per year.<\/p>\n

The investment, scheduled for completion in 2028, will secure the long-term future of the facility, which had faced the risk of closure, the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cS\u00f6dra is stronger with the Kisa sawmill than without it. An alternative would have been closure, but instead we decided to invest in our long-term competitiveness,\u201d chief executive Lotta Lyr\u00e5 said.<\/p>\n

As part of the project, S\u00f6dra will also build a new pellet plant at the site with an annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes.<\/p>\n

In addition to sawn wood, the cooperative produces pulp and a range of bioproducts. The group said the Kisa investment not only safeguards operations but also creates opportunities for new ventures such as biochar.<\/p>\n

Despite the expansion, the mill will remain modest compared to Finnish benchmarks. Mets\u00e4 Group\u2019s new Rauma sawmill, for example, has an annual capacity of 750,000 cubic metres \u2013 more than double Kisa\u2019s planned output.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
