Prosecutors allege that LIAC specialists, acting on requests from <em data-start=\"748\" data-end=\"767\">Ukrainian Forests<\/em> employees, deleted documents on timber origin, reduced reported volumes and altered quality classifications. Each alteration cost up to 30,000 hryvnias (\u20ac720), generating illegal profits exceeding \u20ac10 million.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"981\" data-end=\"1240\">Most violations were recorded in the Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions. Authorities estimate total losses from illegal deforestation this year at 351 million hryvnias (\u20ac8.4 million), despite the EU classifying Ukraine as a \u201clow-risk\u201d forestry country.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1638\">Forty official investigative decisions have been taken in recent weeks, leading to charges against eight LIAC specialists and five <em data-start=\"1373\" data-end=\"1392\">Ukrainian Forests<\/em> employees. Law enforcement has conducted 50 searches, detaining the alleged scheme organiser and three suspected accomplices. Preventive measures have been imposed on <em data-start=\"1560\" data-end=\"1580\">Ukrainian Forests\u2019<\/em> Director General, and two officials have been arrested.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1874\">Additional charges target forestry managers and staff across multiple regions. Allegations include illegal felling in reserves, negligence in protected areas, and authorising the cutting of thousands of trees without proper permits.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"2186\">In 2025 alone, prosecutors filed over 300 lawsuits covering 7,511 hectares of forest land.
