The company is targeting \u20ac300 million in annual savings, with implementation scheduled to begin in early 2026. The planning phase is set to conclude by the end of the third quarter. The focus, according to the group, will be on improving procurement efficiency, optimizing wood supply logistics from forest to mill, and reducing fixed overheads across business units.<\/p>\n

The announcement follows a challenging six-month period for Mets\u00e4 Group, during which it posted a pre-tax loss of approximately \u20ac24 million. The second quarter alone brought a \u20ac61 million operating loss, as demand remained sluggish across key product segments, including spruce plywood. While the group\u2019s engineered wood products such as Kerto LVL have held up better, the company has signalled that weak market conditions and international trade frictions continue to weigh heavily on results.<\/p>\n

For contractors and forestry entrepreneurs in Finland, the message is clear: operational margins are likely to come under renewed pressure. With rising fuel and equipment costs already straining balance sheets, any tightening of harvesting or transport contracts could threaten the viability of smaller operators. Similar concerns apply to third-party service providers along the logistics chain, who may face renegotiated terms or lower volumes.<\/p>\n

Internally, Mets\u00e4 Group is expected to review administrative structures and cost centers, which could lead to workforce reductions or reassignments, even if no formal redundancies have been confirmed. The company has indicated that it will not close mills or processing plants as part of the programme, but the broader implication is a push for leaner operations across departments.<\/p>\n

The consequences may also be felt by the Group\u2019s owner-members\u2014forest owners who supply timber and hold capital balances in the cooperative structure.
