The export value to the EU also decreased by 14%, from €465 million to nearly €399 million. Key EU countries saw steep volume reductions, with Austria down 35% to 227,331 cbm (value down 28% to €63 million), France down 26% to 229,184 cbm (value down 20% to €66 million), Italy down 29% to 173,083 cbm (value down 19% to €39 million), and the Netherlands down 22% to 235,069 cbm (value down 12% to €63 million). Other EU destinations collectively declined by 37% in volume and 24% in value.

In contrast, exports to the United Kingdom increased by 37% in volume to 217,236 cbm and surged 59% in value to €68 million, indicating stronger demand outside the core EU bloc. Other European countries outside the EU also showed a positive trend with a 10% volume increase and a 26% rise in export value, driven mainly by Switzerland, which posted a 31% volume increase (to 47,855 cbm) and a 42% rise in value (to nearly €20 million).

North African markets contracted by 20% in volume to 52,116 cbm and 10% in value to around €13 million. Morocco was a notable exception, with exports rising 60% in volume to 25,998 cbm and 79% in value to almost €7 million. Conversely, Algeria and Egypt experienced significant declines both in volume and value.

North America was a bright spot for German softwood lumber exports, with volumes up 27% to 1.27 million cbm and export value increasing 47% to €372 million. The United States led this growth, with a 28% volume increase to nearly 1.19 million cbm and a 48% value rise to €346 million. Canada also recorded growth, with a 16% volume increase and a 32% value increase.

Exports to the Near and Middle East decreased 14% in volume and 12% in value, falling to 97,058 cbm and €23.5 million, respectively. Saudi Arabia was an exception, with a 44% volume increase and a 52% rise in export value. However, the United Arab Emirates declined sharply by 42% in both volume and value.

Other Asian countries recorded a 24% volume decrease and 16% value decline. Notably, China’s imports fell dramatically by 69% in volume and 57% in value, while Pakistan and the Philippines showed volume increases of 24% and 111%, respectively.

<p
