<\/span>The Pfeifer Group has completed and successfully commissioned the new sawmill of its subsidiary P\u00f6lkky Oy in Kajaani. The annual production capacity has more than doubled from 200,000 m\u00b3 to 450,000 m\u00b3 of sawn timber. This new facility ranks among the most efficient and modern sawmills in Scandinavia and represents an important step in the group\u2019s growth strategy.<\/p>\n

Shortly after acquiring the Finnish wood processor P\u00f6lkky Oy in January 2023, the need to fundamentally modernize the Kajaani site became apparent. The goal was to significantly increase production capacity and further strengthen the market position in Europe. \u201cWith the new sawmill in Kajaani, we have made a forward-looking investment,\u201d said Michael Pfeifer, CEO of Pfeifer Holding. \u201cThe new sawmill combines highly automated technology with sustainable construction and is a true flagship project within the Pfeifer Group.\u201d<\/p>\n

A wide variety of wood products were used in the hall\u2019s construction. P\u00f6lkky supplied glued laminated timber (GLT) in small cross-sections as well as various solid wood components. Large special components such as columns and trusses were provided by Versowood. Additionally, 970 m\u00b3 of cross-laminated timber (CLT) from Pfeifer was installed. The logistical challenges were considerable: the approximately 2200 m\u00b2 facade elements were manufactured at the Schlitz plant (Hessen), transported to EcoTimber for coating, and then delivered to Kajaani. The carpentry work was carried out by the MHB joinery.<\/p>\n

P\u00f6lkky processes Nordic pine and spruce known for their excellent appearance and high quality. The new, highly automated saw line now reaches an annual capacity of 450,000 m\u00b3 of sawn timber. A team of around 100 employees ensures efficient operation on site. This investment is part of the joint growth strategy of Pfeifer and P\u00f6lkky Oy, focusing on increased production capacity, stronger international presence, and higher value creation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
