During the January\u2013May period, U.S. imports of softwood lumber from the European Union dropped notably in 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. <\/span>Total shipment volumes declined by 19% to 3.79 million cubic meters, while the total export value decreased by 13% to \u20ac972 million.<\/p>\n

Germany remained the largest exporter despite a 16% volume reduction and an 18% value decrease, with shipments of 2.06 million cubic meters worth \u20ac523 million. Sweden followed with a 10% volume decline and an 8% fall in value.<\/p>\n

Latvia and the Czech Republic recorded significant growth. Latvia\u2019s export volume increased 50% to 131,422 cubic meters, and its export value nearly doubled to over \u20ac40.8 million. The Czech Republic also posted a 50% rise in volume and a 65% increase in value.<\/p>\n

Other exporters experienced mixed trends. Romania\u2019s exports fell by 26% in volume and 15% in value, while Austria declined by 38% in volume and 36% in value.<\/p>\n

Average export prices showed variation across countries, with Finland and Estonia commanding the highest prices per cubic meter. Portugal experienced an exceptional price surge, from just \u20ac17.86\/m\u00b3 in 2024 to \u20ac275.83\/m\u00b3 in 2025, reflecting steep volume declines but increased export value.<\/p>\n
