<\/span>The Pfeifer Group is advancing resource efficiency and circular economy goals at its long-standing Uelzen facility with two key projects: the installation of a state-of-the-art sawline and the launch of a new waste wood recycling plant. Both initiatives form part of a broader investment plan to secure the site\u2019s long-term future and enhance sustainable production.<\/p>\n

The new sawline will replace the existing system, in operation for over 30 years, significantly boosting production efficiency and raw material yield. Installed within the current sawmill\u2019s building, the upgrade involved raising the roof by about two meters to accommodate the modern equipment. The sawline ensures precise cuts and optimizes the use of logs sourced from sustainably managed forests across Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, and Saxony-Anhalt. This upgrade aims to lower production costs and improve overall output quality for domestic and international markets.<\/p>\n

Alongside the sawline modernization, Pfeifer is introducing a waste wood recycling facility dedicated to processing Class A1 and A2 waste wood from the surrounding region. The plant will produce pressboard pallet blocks, extending the lifecycle of wood materials and contributing to climate protection by sequestering CO2 longer. The recycling tower, a central feature of the new facility, cleans, sorts, and processes waste wood in line with the Waste Wood Ordinance and European Packaging Regulation requirements.<\/p>\n

By combining fresh chips with recycled wood for pallet block production, Pfeifer reduces reliance on fresh timber while maximizing resource use, aligning with its commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles.<\/p>\n

Construction began in May 2024, with the sawline installation carefully managed to avoid production interruptions. Plant Manager Tobias Keller praised the team\u2019s dedication to maintaining output during the complex upgrade process. The old sawline will be retired following the commissioning of the new system in the coming months.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1948 and family-owned through three generations, Pfeifer Holding GmbH operates 13 sites across Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Finland. The group processes wood end-to-end into products including sawn timber, CLT, glued laminated timber, formwork materials, and bioenergy.
