India\u2019s log market has softened in recent weeks, largely due to an early onset of the monsoon season, which traditionally hampers construction activity and disrupts supply chains. <\/span>At Kandla port, log arrivals are expected to decline to just five vessels in July.<\/p>\n

Demand for kiln-dried sawn timber from Europe is weakening as the Euro strengthens, making European lumber less price-competitive in India. This shift is expected to support increased imports of pine sawn timber, particularly from South America and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

In Gandhidham, the price of pine green sawn timber is currently 491 INR\/CFT\u00a0from South American logs and 521 INR\/CFT from New Zealand logs<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, seasonal patterns suggest that log volumes into Kandla may rise in September, ahead of post-Diwali construction activity in October and November.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Tuticorin port is expected to handle increased volumes of New Zealand pine logs through smaller bulk vessels during 2025, reflecting shifting logistics preferences.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Free Trade Agreement negotiations between India and New Zealand are progressing. Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal indicated on 19 June that the deal could conclude within three to four months.
