Poland's state-owned forestry company Lesy \u010cesk\u00e9 republiky (Lesy \u010cR) reported an 18% year-on-year increase in pre-tax profit for the first quarter of 2025, reaching CZK 2.3 billion (EUR 93.1 million). <\/span>The growth was driven by a 5.1% rise in timber harvest volumes and higher revenues from wood sales, the company said.<\/p>\n

According to spokesperson Eva Jouklov\u00e1, timber harvest reached 2.18 million cubic metres in Q1. Revenues from Lesy \u010cR\u2019s core operations\u2014own products and services\u2014increased by 11% to CZK 4.12 billion (EUR 166.8 million).<\/p>\n

\u201cAverage revenue per cubic metre of wood rose by CZK 146 (EUR 5.91) compared to the previous year. The result was also positively impacted by shifting part of the silvicultural activities to the autumn season, which led to lower spring costs,\u201d Jouklov\u00e1 explained. She added that losses from lower returns on free capital are being compensated through other activities, such as sales of venison products.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Lesy \u010cR posted a net profit of CZK 4.74 billion (EUR 192.0 million), up 23% year-on-year. The increase was largely due to the release of CZK 1.1 billion (EUR 44.5 million) in provisions related to reforestation and legal disputes. Without this accounting change, net profit would have been CZK 3.6 billion (EUR 145.7 million).<\/p>\n

This marks the third consecutive year that Lesy \u010cR is operating without the disruptions caused by the bark beetle calamity, which previously led to exceptionally high logging volumes. In 2024, the company increased logging by 4.2% to 8.1 million cubic metres and expects similar volumes in the coming years.<\/p>\n

Forest restoration remains a top priority. Last year, Lesy \u010cR reforested 16,911 hectares. In 2025, it aims to restore around 13,000 hectares, reflecting the progress made in replanting areas affected by the beetle crisis in previous years.<\/p>\n

Most of Lesy \u010cR\u2019s logging and forest management is outsourced to private forestry contractors. Through the \u201ccomprehensive contract\u201d system, selected companies harvest and sell over 40% of the timber. Lesy \u010cR sells another 40% directly and more than 10% via auctions.<\/p>\n
