Canfor Corporation announced it will permanently close its sawmills in Estill and Darlington, South Carolina, by August 2025.<\/span>The decision will reduce the company\u2019s U.S. lumber production capacity by approximately 350 million board feet annually\u2014equivalent to about 826,000 cubic meters\u2014and impact around 290 employees.<\/p>\n

The closures come after an extended period of persistently weak market conditions and ongoing financial losses that have made continued operations at the two facilities no longer viable.<\/p>\n

Canfor plans to offer severance packages and will seek to reassign affected workers across its network of more than 50 facilities in Canada, the United States, and Europe.<\/p>\n

The closures underscore Canfor\u2019s broader efforts to maintain operational efficiency amid market headwinds. The company continues to operate through its majority stakes in global wood products businesses, including a 77% share in Sweden\u2019s Vida AB and a 54.8% interest in Canfor Pulp Products Inc.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
