Most Austrian sawmills are well stocked with spruce sawlogs. Nevertheless, demand remains lively in most regions, despite a recent drop in supply. <\/span>An exception is Tyrol, where a slight decline in demand has been observed. Logs made available are quickly transported and taken over without delay. While prices in Tyrol have fallen slightly, they remained stable in Lower Austria, Salzburg, and Styria. In contrast, Burgenland, Carinthia, and Upper Austria saw slight price increases. Sales of pine are very difficult, with weather-related risks of quality loss. Larch continues to command high prices, with demand difficult to meet.<\/p>\n

Industrial roundwood<\/strong>
The paper, pulp, and panel industries are still well stocked with industrial roundwood. In most cases, supply and demand are balanced. Transport and takeover are proceeding promptly. In damaged areas in the east, some backlog remains, partly due to below-average demand. Prices are stable and have been aligned nationwide. Red beech pulpwood continues to show regional differences: demand is strong in southern Austria, while in the north, purchasing is limited. Prices remain stable.<\/p>\n

Energy wood<\/strong>
Buyers in the energy wood market remain very well supplied, and demand is virtually non-existent. Volumes outside long-term contracts are therefore barely marketable. A recovery is not expected, especially given the season.<\/p>\n

Although weather conditions in May were favorable for the forest, the overall precipitation deficit remains significant this year, and some stands are extremely vulnerable to bark beetle infestation. These should be checked regularly, and infested trees should be removed from the forest as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n
