Since the introduction of the provisional EU tariffs against dumped Chinese parquet in January, the parquet market has been developing positively again for the German parquet industry. <\/span>Member companies sold approximately 1.36 million square meters in the first quarter of 2025 \u2013 an increase of almost 10 percent over the same period last year. Sales increased by 6.7 percent compared to the same quarter last year to just under \u20ac48 million.<\/p>\n

During the same period, imports of multi-layer parquet from China declined dramatically. Imports fell from 406,000 square meters in December 2024 to 192,000 square meters in January, 61,000 square meters in February, and 192,000 square meters in March. This means that almost 60 percent less multi-layer parquet was imported from China to Germany in the first quarter than in the same period last year.<\/p>\n

Michael Schmid, Chairman of The Association of the German Parquet Industry (VDP), explains: \"We can confirm an initial positive effect of the anti-dumping duties. Until now, Chinese manufacturers have been bringing their multi-layer parquet onto the market in large quantities at prices significantly below production costs. Since the dumping parquet has been subject to high tariff margins, imports from China have fallen sharply, and our manufacturers' sales have increased again.\"<\/p>\n

The VDP also welcomes the recent decision by EU member states to perpetuate anti-dumping duties. Starting July 17, import duties on dumped Chinese parquet flooring will remain in place for five years. A special feature: They also apply retroactively to all parquet flooring imported from October 24 onwards.<\/p>\n

The VDP also assumes that the tariffs have led to anticipatory import effects. \"Importers have known since October 2024 that tariff measures would be imposed at the turn of the year. Many have therefore ordered more goods and filled their warehouses before the deadline. Therefore, we do not expect the parquet market in Germany to actually reach 13.1 million square meters in 2024. We consider a anticipatory effect of around 2.2 million square meters of Chinese imported goods to be realistic. This means that last year the parquet market in Germany was only just under 11 million square meters. \"It is clear that these anticipatory imports must now also be cleared with the anti-dumping margins,\" says Schmid. \"We are continuously checking whether the tariffs are possibly being circumvented and will continue to monitor this development in the future.\"<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
