<\/span>Poland\u2019s State Forests authority (Lasy Pa\u0144stwowe<\/em>) has significantly reduced the supply of large-size timber\u2014critical for sawmills and the broader wood-processing sector\u2014sparking warnings from the industry that the entire market could be destabilized.<\/p>\n

\u201cThousands of businesses could go bankrupt,\u201d said Piotr Poziomski, president of the Polish Chamber of the Wood Industry (PIGPD), in an interview with Puls Biznesu<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Chamber represents sawmills and producers of wooden garden structures, flooring, pallets, wooden houses, and wood traders. Since January 2024, these businesses have been affected by a logging moratorium introduced by the Ministry of Climate, covering 96,000 hectares of ecologically valuable forests in Podlasie and Podkarpacie.<\/p>\n

Further restrictions could remove 5 million m\u00b3 of wood<\/strong><\/p>\n

To make matters worse, at the end of 2024, State Forests decided to withdraw several hundred thousand additional hectares from timber harvesting. Over the next two years, this will result in a reduction of at least 5 million cubic meters of harvested wood, according to Puls Biznesu<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The latest supply plan for the second half of 2025 presented by State Forests is worsening the outlook, especially for large-dimension oak and pine logs\u2014essential for sawmill production. These logs are used to manufacture furniture, flooring, windows, and are vital in construction.<\/p>\n

In contrast, State Forests plans to increase the supply of smaller-diameter wood used by the pulp and paper industry. However, this type of wood, known as papier\u00f3wka<\/em>, is unsuitable for furniture and construction applications.<\/p>\n
