<\/span>Austrian wood-based materials producer Kronospan has received clearance from Romania\u2019s Competition Council to acquire the ZG Timber sawmill in Sebe\u0219 from Germany\u2019s Ziegler Group.<\/p>\n

The deal ensures continued operations at the Sebe\u0219 site and safeguards around 500 local jobs, following the insolvency of Ziegler Holding GmbH in late 2024. Ziegler had entered the Romanian market in 2023 after acquiring the Sebe\u0219 sawmill from HS Timber, formerly known as Holzindustrie Schweighofer.<\/p>\n

Kronospan will begin producing sawn timber at the Sebe\u0219 site as part of the acquisition, expanding its product range beyond wood-based panels.<\/p>\n

Kronospan announced in March 2025 that it had reached an agreement to purchase the facility, with the transaction expected to be finalized by mid-year. The company has pledged to retain existing jobs and maintain production continuity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis acquisition will allow us to integrate sawn timber into our product portfolio and strengthen our position in the wood processing sector,\u201d the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Kronospan, active in Romania since 1998, has invested over EUR 600 million in the country to date. It operates facilities in Sebe\u0219 and Bra\u0219ov, where it produces particleboard (PB), medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and oriented strand board (OSB).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
