{"id":88938,"date":"2025-06-06T06:53:18","date_gmt":"2025-06-06T06:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/kastamonu-plans-major-investments-in-italian-production-facility\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T09:04:24","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T09:04:24","slug":"kastamonu-plans-major-investments-in-italian-production-facility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/kastamonu-plans-major-investments-in-italian-production-facility\/","title":{"rendered":"Kastamonu plans major investments in Italian production facility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"268\" data-end=\"508\">Turkish wood-based panels manufacturer <strong data-start=\"307\" data-end=\"328\">Kastamonu Entegre<\/strong> is continuing its expansion in Europe with major investments in Italy, aiming to increase both production capacity and the use of renewable energy at its manufacturing facilities.<span id=\"more-38371\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"949\">Kastamonu Entegre, one of the world\u2019s leading wood-based panel producers, has grown significantly since opening its first plant in Turkey in 1971. Today, it operates production facilities in six Turkish cities\u2014Kastamonu, Gebze, Bal\u0131kesir, Samsun, Tarsus, and Adana\u2014as well as in Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, and Italy. The company also has a subsidiary in the United States, focused on wood chip supply and logistics.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"951\" data-end=\"1328\">In 2017, the company expanded into Italy through the acquisition of <strong data-start=\"1019\" data-end=\"1038\">Gruppo Trombini<\/strong>, which at the time was the country\u2019s third-largest particleboard manufacturer. The group operated several facilities, including the <strong data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1190\">Frossasco plant<\/strong> (320,000 m\u00b3\/year capacity, currently closed) and the <strong data-start=\"1244\" data-end=\"1263\">Pomposa factory<\/strong>, with an annual production capacity of approximately 450,000 m\u00b3.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1779\">The Pomposa plant, originally founded in 1962 and extensively modernised in 2007 through an \u20ac80 million investment, has long been a key production site for raw and laminated panels used in the furniture industry. It is notable for using <strong data-start=\"1567\" data-end=\"1589\">100% recycled wood<\/strong> and once held a <strong data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1626\">15% market share<\/strong> in Italy. After reactivating the factory in 2018, Kastamonu Entegre set a goal of achieving a <strong data-start=\"1721\" data-end=\"1741\">20% market share<\/strong> in the Italian particleboard segment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1781\" data-end=\"2068\">In a significant development, the company has opened a <strong data-start=\"1836\" data-end=\"1859\">new production line<\/strong> at Pomposa, increasing its total investment in Italy to <strong data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"1932\">\u20ac250 million<\/strong>. The new capacity will allow the factory to <strong data-start=\"1977\" data-end=\"2008\">launch export sales in 2025<\/strong>, expanding beyond its current focus on the domestic market.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2070\" data-end=\"2418\">CEO <strong data-start=\"2074\" data-end=\"2090\">Haluk Y\u0131ld\u0131z<\/strong> recently stated that the company had already invested <strong data-start=\"2145\" data-end=\"2161\">\u20ac210 million<\/strong>, including the purchase and installation of additional machinery, and added <strong data-start=\"2238\" data-end=\"2261\">another \u20ac40 million<\/strong> to support further development. \u201cOur investments are not over, they continue,\u201d he said in an interview with Turkish business magazine <strong data-start=\"2396\" data-end=\"2417\">Patronlar D\u00fcnyas\u0131<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2420\" data-end=\"2934\">In parallel, the company is investing heavily in <strong data-start=\"2469\" data-end=\"2489\">renewable energy<\/strong> at the Pomposa site. In <strong data-start=\"2514\" data-end=\"2528\">March 2025<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2530\" data-end=\"2546\">solar panels<\/strong> with a <strong data-start=\"2554\" data-end=\"2570\">3MW capacity<\/strong> were installed on the factory\u2019s roof. Plans are in place to add a <strong data-start=\"2637\" data-end=\"2682\">4.5MW solar installation on adjacent land<\/strong>, enabling the site to <strong data-start=\"2705\" data-end=\"2746\">self-generate 15% of its energy needs<\/strong>. Both solar projects are expected to be completed within the year. Additionally, the company plans to invest around <strong data-start=\"2863\" data-end=\"2878\">\u20ac20 million<\/strong> in building a <strong data-start=\"2893\" data-end=\"2925\">new glue production facility<\/strong> on site.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2936\" data-end=\"3075\">While the <strong data-start=\"2946\" data-end=\"2965\">Frossasco plant<\/strong> remains closed, Kastamonu Entegre has indicated that production activities could restart there in the future.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3077\" data-end=\"3402\">The investments in Italy are part of the company\u2019s strategy to strengthen its international presence. Kastamonu Entegre currently exports to around <strong data-start=\"3225\" data-end=\"3252\">100 countries worldwide<\/strong> and views Italy as a key location in its European expansion due to the country\u2019s role as a hub of <strong data-start=\"3351\" data-end=\"3401\">furniture design and sustainability innovation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3404\" data-end=\"3816\">\u201cBeing here provides us with an opportunity to follow fashion and trends in the sector more closely,\u201d Y\u0131ld\u0131z said. \u201cOur presence in Italy also offers the opportunity to work with furniture manufacturers. On the other hand, the fact that Italy is the only country in Europe that produces [particleboard that is] 100% recycled and the experience provided by the sustainability system here are very valuable to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3818\" data-end=\"4287\">In addition to boosting capacity and exports, the company is also working to improve the environmental profile of its product portfolio. In <strong data-start=\"3958\" data-end=\"3972\">March 2025<\/strong>, it launched <strong data-start=\"3986\" data-end=\"3999\">PureBoard<\/strong>, Turkey\u2019s first <strong data-start=\"4016\" data-end=\"4051\">formaldehyde-free particleboard<\/strong>, made using environmentally friendly adhesives. The product is designed to lower emissions, improve indoor air quality, and promote healthier living environments. Kastamonu plans to introduce PureBoard to its foreign markets this year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4289\" data-end=\"4756\">The company is also increasing its use of recycled raw materials. In Turkey, it has opened <strong data-start=\"4380\" data-end=\"4423\">recycling plants in Gebze and Bal\u0131kesir<\/strong>, designed to process <strong data-start=\"4445\" data-end=\"4484\">300,000 tons of wood waste annually<\/strong>. The total investment in these two sites is <strong data-start=\"4529\" data-end=\"4570\">TRY 160 million (around \u20ac3.9 million)<\/strong>. \u201cWith these facilities, we aim to reintegrate wood waste into the economy, promote sustainable raw material usage, and lead the transition to a circular production model,\u201d said Y\u0131ld\u0131z.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4758\" data-end=\"4955\">Kastamonu Entegre reports that <strong data-start=\"4789\" data-end=\"4810\">67% of the energy<\/strong> it consumes is sourced from <strong data-start=\"4839\" data-end=\"4862\">renewable resources<\/strong>, and the company plans to install <strong data-start=\"4897\" data-end=\"4954\">solar power plants at six manufacturing sites by 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4957\" data-end=\"5227\">With an overall production capacity of <strong data-start=\"4996\" data-end=\"5014\">7.8 million m\u00b3<\/strong>, Kastamonu Entegre is now the <strong data-start=\"5045\" data-end=\"5102\">third-largest producer of wood-based panels in Europe<\/strong>.
