Tommi Sneck, Director of the Sawmill Industry business at Finland's Koskisen Oyj, has been appointed chairman of the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry (EOS), the Brussels-based group representing Europe\u2019s sawmill sector at the EU level.<\/p>\n
Sneck succeeds Herbert Joebstl, who led EOS for four years. The election took place during the organisation\u2019s annual General Assembly in Vienna, which also welcomed two new national bodies\u2014Filiera Legno from Italy and Forest Industries Ireland\u2014expanding EOS\u2019s network across Europe.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy goal is to continue building on the solid foundation laid by Herbert and the Board, while also leading EOS into a future shaped by both opportunities and new challenges,\u201d Sneck said. He pointed to EU initiatives related to nature credits and LULUCF rules, as well as the need to strengthen the role of the wood industry in Europe\u2019s bioeconomy.<\/p>\n
EOS members account for about 80% of Europe\u2019s sawnwood production. According to the association\u2019s 2024\/2025 Annual Report, published during the meeting, member countries recorded a 1% increase in sawnwood output in 2024 despite ongoing headwinds in construction.<\/p>\n
Sneck previously chaired the Finnish Sawmills Association from 2020 to 2023. Under his leadership, EOS is expected to reinforce its advocacy on issues such as raw material access, sustainable forestry, and climate policy.<\/p>\n
