Of the 38 people affected, 24 are employed staff and 14 are hired contractors, according to SVT V\u00e4rmland.<\/p>\n<p>\"This is a tough day for all of us at Moelven, not least for our skilled employees who work at the sawmill in Ransby. Unfortunately, it's something we have to do as we've had deteriorating profitability for a long time. Our first priority now is to focus on taking care of the employees affected by the shutdown,\" says Peter Broberg, CEO of Moelven Notn\u00e4s Ransby AB, in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>\"Closing down any of our operations is, of course, something we want to avoid, but in this situation, it's unfortunately necessary,\" says Anders Lindh, Divisional Manager at Moelven Timber.<\/p>\n<p>High raw material prices, rising production costs, and a challenging market situation have increasingly squeezed margins for Moelven's Ransby sawmill over the past year. Earlier this spring, Moelven announced that both Moelven Dalatr\u00e4 AB and Moelven \u00c5rj\u00e4ng S\u00e5g AB were retooling to focus on processing coarser medium-sized logs.<\/p>\n<p>This change was made to saw the smaller timber at Moelven Val\u00e5sen AB to achieve higher added value and better long-term profitability.<\/p>\n<p>The same restructuring is now being implemented at Moelven Notn\u00e4s Ransby AB. The sawmill in Ransby will therefore be closed, but production at the Notn\u00e4s sawmill will not be affected, according to Moelven.<\/p>\n<p>\"This decision, combined with the measures we have already communicated for Moelven \u00c5rj\u00e4ng S\u00e5g AB and Moelven Dalatr\u00e4 AB, will reduce Moelven's total timber demand in Sweden for now.
