The move forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen the company\u2019s financial position while maintaining access to strategic resources.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"629\" data-end=\"962\">The buyer is a newly established entity co-owned by Soya Group, which holds a 40.6% stake, and MEAG, the asset management arm of German insurer Munich Re, which holds 44.4%. Stora Enso retains a 15% ownership interest, allowing it to benefit from any future upside in the asset\u2019s value while freeing up capital for other investments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"1402\">As part of the agreement, Stora Enso and the new ownership structure have entered into a long-term wood supply contract lasting 15 years, with an option to extend for a further 15. This ensures continued access to wood for Stora Enso\u2019s operations in Sweden\u2014an essential condition for a company whose business depends heavily on stable, long-term fibre supply. Stora Enso will also provide forest management services for the divested land.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1843\">Although the sale will result in a reduction in the group\u2019s adjusted EBITDA by approximately \u20ac25 million per year, of which \u20ac15 million is cash-related, the financial benefit lies in reducing net debt by \u20ac790 million. The proceeds are expected to improve the company\u2019s leverage and provide greater financial flexibility at a time when the forest products sector is navigating slowing demand, rising costs, and mounting regulatory pressure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1845\" data-end=\"2352\">Announced initially in October 2024 and confirmed in May 2025, the divestment marks a strategic shift in how Stora Enso manages its assets. Historically, large forest holdings have been viewed as long-term strategic reserves.
