<\/span>Timber prices in Finland surged to historic levels in April, with log and pulpwood prices rising sharply on strong demand and limited supply. According to monthly data, standing sales prices for logs reached levels not seen since the 2007\u20132008 market peak, while pulpwood prices set all-time records.<\/p>\n

In standing sales, the average price paid for spruce logs was nearly \u20ac85 per cubic metre, while pine logs fetched almost \u20ac83. Birch logs averaged over \u20ac67. Real price increases from March were notable: pine logs rose 2%, spruce logs 1%, and birch logs 1%.<\/p>\n

The Finnish forest industry has not recorded such high monthly average log prices in over 15 years. In the pulpwood segment, standing sales prices climbed to over \u20ac35 for spruce, almost \u20ac34 for birch, and just over \u20ac33 for pine\u2014marking monthly gains of 1\u20133%.<\/p>\n

Delivery sales prices also saw increases. Spruce and birch pulpwood each rose 1% from March, reaching \u20ac54.47 and \u20ac53.74 per cubic metre respectively. Pine pulpwood slipped 1% to just under \u20ac53. Nonetheless, the current price levels in delivery sales are the highest ever recorded since the monthly statistics began in 1995.<\/p>\n

The surge in prices was accompanied by a significant increase in trade volumes. In April, industrial roundwood purchases from private forests in Finland were 52% higher than a year earlier and exceeded the five-year average by the same margin.<\/p>\n

Cumulatively, from January to April, timber trade volumes were up 20% year-on-year and 26% above the five-year average.<\/p>\n

Analysts attribute the price rally to a combination of strong industry demand, resilient construction-related activity, and a tightening supply of roundwood from private forests. The pulp and paper sector has also contributed to upward pricing pressure amid robust export orders.<\/p>\n

The Finnish timber market\u2019s continued strength underscores broader trends across Europe, where regional supply constraints and global demand are reshaping wood product pricing.
