<\/span>Around 40 of the 140 employees at Braviken sawmill outside Norrk\u00f6ping are being given notice of layoffs, reports Dagens Industri (Di). It is not yet clear which positions are affected.<\/p>\n

Holmen said to Dagens Industri that the cutback is a result of challenging market conditions and difficulties in securing a profitable raw material supply.<\/p>\n

\"\u00a0We must adapt to challenging external factors to secure the business in the long term. Among other things, it is the surge after the new US administration's tariffs and access to timber from the local area at a competitive cost that is affecting us negatively. To match demand and timber supply, we must reduce volume,\u00a0\" says Johan Padel, business area manager for Holmen Tr\u00e4varor, in a written comment to Di.<\/p>\n

Holmen's explanation for the decision is a combination of significant price differences for timber within Sweden, uncertainty in the market due to Donald Trump's tariff policy and challenges in supplying the Braviken sawmill with profitable raw material.<\/p>\n

According to Di, production needs to be reduced by approximately 90,000 cubic meters to achieve a balance between raw materials, capacity and demand.<\/p>\n

Holmen emphasizes that it continues to believe in the timber business and in the Braviken sawmill, but that the downsizing is necessary to ensure long-term profitability.<\/p>\n
