<\/span>Koskisen Corporation\u2019s first-quarter 2025 results show a solid improvement in profitability, driven by record sawmill production and strong performance in its Sawn Timber Industry segment. The company\u2019s revenue for the January\u2013March period reached EUR 86.3 million, up 35.4% compared to EUR 63.7 million during the same period last year. The group\u2019s EBITDA increased to EUR 9.4 million, representing a 69.8% year-on-year increase, while adjusted EBITDA grew to EUR 9.5 million, with an improved margin of 11.0%.<\/p>\n

Sawmill production at record levels<\/strong><\/p>\n

Koskisen\u2019s Sawn Timber Industry segment showed notable growth, with EBITDA increasing sharply to EUR 5.4 million compared to just EUR 0.7 million in the first quarter of 2024. This improvement was supported by a record-high level of sawmill production, reflecting both higher production efficiency and increased deliveries. Additionally, sawn timber prices saw a slight increase.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s recent investments in infrastructure are also beginning to yield results. In February, Koskisen commissioned a new log yard, designed to improve raw material efficiency in sawmill production. By the second quarter of 2025, full-scale operations at the log yard will result in cost benefits and reduced emissions in logistics. To further support the growth of the Sawn Timber segment, the company is constructing a district heating connection pipe that will improve energy efficiency and accommodate the increased energy demand from sawmill operations. Koskisen plans to raise its sawmill production capacity from 400,000 m\u00b3.<\/p>\n

Panel production<\/strong><\/p>\n

Koskisen\u2019s Panel Industry segment, which includes plywood and chipboard production, experienced a decrease in profitability. EBITDA in this segment was EUR 4.5 million, down from EUR 5.3 million in 2024. This drop in profitability was primarily driven by higher wood raw material costs and other production costs. Production was slightly constrained in the early months of the year, but demand for plywood has started to increase across major applications. However, the demand for chipboard remains subdued, primarily due to delays in the construction sector recovery.<\/p>\n

Despite these challenges, Koskisen has continued its investment strategy in panel production. The ramp-up of the new Kore business production plant in Skwierzyna, Poland, was completed as planned, and the company is working on optimizing its production model to improve profitability. Furthermore, investments in domestic plywood and chipboard production are progressing, with equipment installations scheduled for the second half of 2025, totaling an investment of approximately EUR 12 million.<\/p>\n

Strategic acquisitions and sustainable growth<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the key developments for Koskisen in 2025 is the acquisition of Iisveden Mets\u00e4 Oy\u2019s business, which was announced in March. This acquisition is part of Koskisen\u2019s sustainable growth strategy and is expected to significantly enhance the company\u2019s position in both its Sawn Timber and Panel Industry segments. The acquisition will increase the revenue of the Sawn Timber segment by approximately one-third and help secure the raw material supply for the Panel Industry segment. The transaction has received approval from both the Finnish and Estonian competition authorities and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n

Outlook<\/strong><\/p>\n

Koskisen\u2019s CEO, Jukka Pahta, expressed satisfaction with the company\u2019s first-quarter performance, highlighting the strong revenue growth and improved profitability. \u201cThe year started very strongly, and we are pleased with the results so far. We\u2019ve seen solid performance across our core segments, particularly in sawmill production,\u201d said Pahta. \u201cThe market environment remains uncertain, especially with unpredictable US trade policies, but Europe, and particularly Germany, has shown positive signs of growth in infrastructure and energy investments, which could have a broad impact across industries.\u201d<\/p>\n

Koskisen\u2019s outlook for 2025 remains positive, with the company expecting continued growth in revenue and an adjusted EBITDA margin in the range of 7\u201311%.
