<\/span>Stora Enso has completed the acquisition of Finnish sawmill company Junnikkala, adding 700,000 cubic metres of annual sawmilling capacity and boosting its wood procurement in Finland by 1.7 million cubic metres, the company said.<\/p>\n

The move strengthens Stora Enso\u2019s position in the Nordic wood products market and supports integration with its Oulu packaging board site, where a new board machine is currently being ramped up. The company said the deal ensures a long-term, cost-efficient wood supply for its operations.<\/p>\n

The enterprise value of the transaction is up to \u20ac137 million, with a significant portion tied to production milestones. Once Junnikkala\u2019s new Oulu sawmill reaches full capacity, Stora Enso expects annual synergies of around \u20ac15 million. The acquisition also brings sawmills in Kalajoki and Oulainen under Stora Enso\u2019s control, further enhancing its wood product offering.<\/p>\n

Separately, Stora Enso has submitted applications for environmental and operational permits to build a new sawmill in Imatra, southeastern Finland. The project has been planned for a long time, but Stora Enso has chosen complete silence as its communication policy. The notification of initiation made public by the Regional State Administrative Agency does not provide any other information about the project.<\/p>\n

While the company has remained tight-lipped about the Imatra investment, the site would be strategically located near Stora Enso\u2019s existing Kaukop\u00e4\u00e4 and Tainionkoski mills, which produce pulp and consumer board. The closest sawmill currently operated by the company is in Honkalahti, Lappeenranta, with others in Varkaus and Uimaharju.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
