<\/span>Swedish wood industry group Derome has inaugurated a new sawing line at its spruce sawmill in Halland, investing SEK 600 million (\u20ac52 million) in a project aimed at increasing output and raw material efficiency.<\/p>\n

The new equipment, described by the company as among the most advanced in the world, is part of a broader modernisation of the Derome sawmill site, located north of Varberg. The upgrade has been ongoing since 2022 and includes improvements from log intake to raw sorting.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of the investment is to increase yield \u2013 that is, to raise the proportion of each log that becomes construction timber,\u201d said Linda Andersson, CEO of Derome Timber, in a statement.<\/p>\n

Andersson said rising demand for low-emission construction materials is intensifying competition for forest resources, making it crucial to maximise the value of each log.<\/p>\n

The company says its approach enables more efficient use of the raw material and claims that, if adopted nationwide, the technique could allow Sweden to produce 30,000 more wooden houses with the same volume of logs.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1946, Derome employs around 2,500 people and reports an annual turnover of approximately SEK 10 billion (\u20ac867 million).
