Roundwood prices in Sweden rose sharply in the first quarter of 2025, driven by strong demand for sawlogs. <\/span>New data from the Swedish Forest Agency show that average prices for sawlogs increased by 11% compared to the previous quarter, while pulpwood rose by 5%.<\/p>\n

Pine sawlogs reached 972 SEK per cubic metre (EUR 84), up from 866 SEK (EUR 75) in the fourth quarter of 2024. Spruce sawlogs climbed to 1,110 SEK (EUR 96), from 1,006 SEK (EUR 87). Pulpwood of coniferous trees was priced at 649 SEK (EUR 56), up from 613 SEK (EUR 53), while pulpwood of broadleaved trees increased to 623 SEK (EUR 54), from 608 SEK (EUR 53).<\/p>\n

Regionally, Svealand posted the largest quarterly increase in sawlog prices, rising 12%, followed by G\u00f6taland with 11%. In S\u00f6dra Norrland and Norra Norrland, prices rose by 6% and 5%, respectively.<\/p>\n

Pulpwood prices rose most in Norra Norrland, with a 15% gain over Q4 2024. G\u00f6taland recorded a 5% increase, while Svealand rose by 4%. Prices in S\u00f6dra Norrland declined by 1%.<\/p>\n

Sharp year-on-year increases<\/strong><\/p>\n

Compared to the first quarter of 2024, sawlog prices rose by nearly 30% nationwide. Pine sawlogs were up from 765 SEK (EUR 66), while spruce sawlogs rose from 830 SEK (EUR 72). Regionally, G\u00f6taland recorded a 34% year-on-year increase in sawlog prices, followed by Svealand at 32%, S\u00f6dra Norrland at 20%, and Norra Norrland at 16%.<\/p>\n

Pulpwood prices rose by 23% compared to Q1 2024. Coniferous pulpwood increased from 521 SEK (EUR 45) and broadleaved pulpwood from 539 SEK (EUR 47). The strongest annual gains were recorded in Svealand and G\u00f6taland (both nearly 27%), followed by S\u00f6dra Norrland (15%) and Norra Norrland (14%).<\/p>\n

The continued price rise reflects firm market conditions and solid demand from the domestic forest industry, particularly for construction-grade logs and fibre-based products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
