Industry experts attribute the strong demand to a combination of seasonal factors, a short winter, and limited availability of winter harvesting volumes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"869\">According to Jari Yli-Talonen, director of the P\u00e4ij\u00e4t-H\u00e4me Forest Management Association, softwood log prices in clear-cut operations are nearing \u20ac90 per cubic metre, while in thinning operations they are averaging around \u20ac80. In some exceptional cases, particularly for large sites accessible during the spring thaw, prices have exceeded \u20ac90 per cubic metre\u2014figures never before seen in March\u2013April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"1157\">The volume of timber sales in the P\u00e4ij\u00e4t-H\u00e4me region has surged by about 30% year-on-year in early 2025. Compared to two or three years ago, activity has nearly doubled. \"There\u2019s fierce competition for harvesting sites. Even small stands are receiving multiple bids,\" Yli-Talonen notes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1159\" data-end=\"1519\">Other regions report similar trends. In Central Finland, Eero Poikonen from the regional forest management association confirms that softwood logs have also fetched more than \u20ac90\/m\u00b3 in recent deals. He attributes the strong market to a shortened winter and early onset of spring, which limited harvesting opportunities in traditionally winter-accessible sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"1843\">In Southwest Finland, average prices are slightly lower but still near \u20ac90 for spruce logs in large summer harvesting areas. Pine logs are also commanding higher-than-expected prices, only a few euros below spruce. Meanwhile, pulpwood is holding steady, with prices nearing or exceeding \u20ac40\/m\u00b3 in final felling operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1845\" data-end=\"2037\">Forest managers across the country report a clear supply-demand imbalance for summer and spring thaw harvesting areas, with demand outpacing availability\u2014particularly for thaw-sensitive sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2039\" data-end=\"2297\">While softwood prices are climbing, energy wood is moving in the opposite direction. Across all five forest management regions referenced, prices for energy wood have declined, and the gap between it and pulpwood has widened to several euros per cubic metre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2299\" data-end=\"2728\">The current market also features significant price variation between offers. In some larger lots, the gap between the highest and lowest bids can reach \u20ac10 per cubic metre. \u201cIt\u2019s a good time to seek competitive offers,\u201d says Yli-Talonen.
