The need for wood will increase this year and next year in Finland's forest industry, which will keep the demand for domestic wood strong. As a result, both felling volumes and wood prices in Finland will increase. <\/span>However, the price development of pulpwood will stabilize in a new market balance. The gross stumpage income of private forests will rise to new record figures, clearly over three billion euros, , according to the forest sector forecast by Finland's Pellervo Economic Research PTT.<\/p>\n

\"The upheaval in the wood market experienced over the past couple of years is now behind us, wood prices are leveling off and the pulpwood market has found a new balance,\" summarizes forest economist Olli Korhonen.<\/p>\n

This year, capacity changes and production running without long-term equipment breakdowns will increase the pulp industry's need for wood, and wood use in the forest industry will increase by about two percent in total. Next year, wood use will increase by about four percent, as production increases in both the wood products and pulp industries. Wood imports have increased, especially from Latvia, but this is unlikely to be enough to cover demand.<\/p>\n

As a result, the demand for domestic wood remains strong. This year, the harvest volume will increase by about five percent, as the need for industrial wood increases and the availability of foreign wood is limited. Next year, the harvest volume will increase by another two percent.<\/p>\n

The number of wood trades will grow by approximately two percent in 2025 compared to last year. The number of trades will develop in approximately the same proportion for both log and pulpwood. Next year, the number of wood trades will continue to grow by approximately two percent.<\/p>\n

Private forest owners' timber sales revenue reaches record levels<\/strong><\/p>\n

The demand for domestic wood in Finland has also been reflected in wood sales revenues, which are reaching record levels in real terms. The nominal gross stumpage revenue of private forests rose by a tenth last year to just under 2.9 billion euros as the average price of wood and trading volumes rose. In real terms, the revenue was slightly below the record year of 2007. This year and next, forest owners' wood sales revenues will continue to rise as logging increases and prices and trading increase moderately. The revenue will also reach a record in real terms.<\/p>\n

This year, wood sales revenue will increase by one tenth to approximately 3.2 billion euros. Next year, revenue will increase by a further eight percent to approximately 3.4 billion euros.<\/p>\n

The pulpwood market has found a new balance<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, the average annual price of logs in standing timber stores will increase more moderately than last year, slightly less than four percent. The nominal change in the average price of spruce logs is, in contrast to recent years, slightly higher than that of pine logs. The average price of birch logs will increase slightly from last year. Next year, the price trend for logs will continue and the nominal average price for logs will increase by approximately two percent.<\/p>\n

\"The price development of pulpwood is clearly leveling off compared to recent years, which indicates that a new market balance has been found. In vertical stores, the average annual price of pulpwood will increase by about four percent this year and by about two percent next year,\" says Research Director Paula Horne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
