<\/span>Romania\u2019s competition authority said it is looking into the agreed takeover of local wood processing company ZG Timber Sebes by Austrian wood-based panels manufacturer Kronospan Holdings.<\/p>\n

The Competition Council will assess the terms of the notified transaction in accordance with current legislation to determine whether it can be granted clearance, the antitrust body said in a press release on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

ZG Timber Sebes produces timber and pellets at a plant in the central city of Sebes, Alba county. The company was acquired by German wood processing group Ziegler from Austrian peer HS Timber in 2023, Ziarul Financiar reported on Tuesday. Ziegler Holding entered insolvency last year.<\/p>\n

\"The acquisition ensures the continuity of operations at the Sebes facility, safeguarding 500 local jobs following the insolvency of Ziegler Holding GmbH at the end of 2024. The acquisition agreement was signed on March 1, 2025, with the transaction expected to be finalized by mid-year, pending regulatory approvals,\" Kronospan said in a press release announcing the deal earlier this month. The value of the acquisition was not disclosed.<\/p>\n

Kronospan is a manufacturer of wood-based panels and value-added wood products, with a presence in Romania since 1998. The company has invested over 600 million euro ($654 million) in the country and currently operates two production plants - in Brasov and Sebes, a logistics center at the port of Constanta, and several wood collection and recycling centers across Romania.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
